Community Action Team
Community Action Team (CAT)
The purpose of the Community Action Team is to provide trained volunteers in support of selected nonprofits organizations that align with the Junior League of Greater Orlando’s mission and focus areas. Currently the JLGO is partnering with the following organizations:

Second Harvest Food Bank: The JLGO is happy to renew our partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida this League year. Second Harvest exists to create hope and nourish lives through a powerful hunger relief network, while multiplying the generosity of a caring community. They achieve this mission by collecting, storing, and distributing donated food to more than 500 feeding partners in six Central Florida counties to nourish members of our communities. This partnership aligns with JLGO’s focus area of addressing childhood health, hunger and poverty, and through volunteerism we are able to support and promote Second Harvest’s initiatives. .

Coalition for the Homeless: For several years, the JLGO has provided volunteer support to the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. The Coalition strives to eradicate mass homelessness in communities and provides resources to individuals and families needing crucial services such as housing and food. The Coalition believes that affordable housing, sufficient food and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society. This partnership aligns with JLGO’s initiative of addressing childhood health, hunger and poverty in our communities. We are proud to support the women and children at the Coalition and to encourage and empower those in need. Learn more about the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida here.

Harbor House: In partnership with Harbor House, the JLGO supports families and children who are survivors of domestic abuse. Junior League volunteers host monthly sessions for mothers and children and provide support for Harbor House fundraisers and events. Harbor House trains JLGO members on preventing domestic abuse in our Central Florida community. This partnership aligns with the Junior League’s mission as well as one of JLGO’s current focus areas: ending gender-based violence. Learn more about Harbor House here.
Done in a Day(DIAD): The purpose of this committee is to plan, prepare for and execute DIAD volunteer shifts for members of the committee and for general JLGO members to attend. They will provide trained volunteers to support a variety of current and new nonprofit organizations working within the AJLI’s 5 Impact Areas, to decrease the volunteer needs of those organizations. This committee is currently working with organizations such as Foundation for Foster Children, One Heart for Women and Children, Ronald McDonald House, Give Kids the World, Nemours Children’s Hospital, and the American Heart Association.
